L-Carnitine - The Energy Vitamin

The purpose of eating food is to gain energy and strength. But how exactly does that work? How does the food we consume turn into energy? It is a process by which fatty acids, among others, are converted into energy by the mitochondria. The mitochondria are the powerhouses of the body's cells. L-carnitine in effect may enhance this process, which is one of the reasons L-carnitine is often referred to as "The Energy Vitamin".

However, L-carnitine is not really a vitamin. It is a substance similar to a vitamin. It is important to draw this difference because the term "vitamin" commonly refers to a substance that the human organism cannot produce on its own. Yet, the human body can produce small amounts of L-carnitine and therefore L-carnitine is considered to be a vitamin-like substance today.

The Russian researchers V.S. Gulewitsch and R. Krimberg were the first to discover this exciting substance in the muscle tissue of mammals in 1905. They called this substance "carnitine", derived from the Latin term "Carnis" meaning meat. To this day about 10 000 academic research studies have been published all about L-carnitine. Public interest in L-carnitine has been growing continually and about 300 additional papers are published annually around the world about "The Energy Vitamin".

L-carnitine is found literally in every part of the organism. Larger amounts are particularly evident wherever a lot of energy is required. The liver, kidneys and brain can naturally produce this nutrient, yet not enough to meet the total requirement. We have to consume foods rich in L-carnitine to make up the difference. To meet the daily requirement we recommend taking our L-carnitine product. Our L-carnitine capsules contain 100 mg of pure L-carnitine.
